Lao Cha Tou (老茶头) is a distinctive type of Shu Pu-erh that naturally forms during the tea’s fermentation process. The name literally means “old tea heads.” Lao Cha Tou consists of dense clusters of tea leaves that form naturally during the wo dui (渥堆) fermentation process.
During artificial fermentation, large quantities of tea are fermented in a humid environment under cover and periodically turned. Some tea leaves naturally bind together into dense clusters under the influence of moisture, heat, and pressure. These clusters are difficult to separate by hand, so they are left intact, forming Lao Cha Tou.
This tea is valued for its smoothness, endurance, and depth. Well suited to evening tea sessions or quiet, focused work.
